History
Platt’s Farm was built in 1858 as a dairy farm to service the neighbouring Bryn Y Neuadd Hall, owned by Mr John Platt, a wealthy Victorian textile merchant and MP for Oldham. Alongside the farm was a walled garden complete with glass houses to provide an array of exotic fruit and vegetables for the Platt family to enjoy.
The family lived in the hall until late 1890’s when the family members one by one passed away. After that the whole site was purchased by the then St.Andews Hospital Northamptonshire, and then later became part of the NHS estates.
The farm was in use right up to the mid 1990’s where 22 cattle were brought in each day to be milked in the farm buildings by the tenant farmers. Since then, the farm remained empty and fell in to disrepair until Sam and Alan purchased the property in 2010. In the last 10 years they and their families have worked hard to breathe life back in to the site and provide a fantastic campsite and bunkhouse accommodation for guests to enjoy. Work continues year on year to maintain the ornate buildings and develop a vegetable plot in the walled garden. Sam and Alan look forward to the future of Platt’s farm and all it has to offer.
